Back in February of this year, we featured a specific organization, Starfish Alliance, Inc..  Starfish Alliance addresses needs within the orphan cycle, not the least of which are youth in foster care.

On any given day in Franklin County, there are 1,500 youth in foster care and an estimated 1,000 former foster youth, between the ages of 18 and 30. Youth in foster care were placed there due to no fault of their own. Rather, they were removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, loss of parents or separation from parents. Each year, between 100 and 200 young people in Franklin County “age out” of their foster homes at age 18 without having been adopted or reunited with their biological families.

A critical component of  Starfish Alliance is LINK22.

LINK22, founded in 2012, is a network exclusively for young people who experienced foster care. Members are connected with mentors, peers, leadership and social entrepreneur development, education and careers. We are asking our Relā audience to consider CONNECTING to The Starfish Alliance and SERVING as a mentor.  They are currently calling for mentors for the 2016-2017 sessions.
At Relā, we firmly believe the world is made better by better leaders, leaders just like you.  Leaders who are willing to give themselves to restore people, systems and communities.  Please consider serving a youth who has experienced foster care and make a lasting change in a young person’s life.
